The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) recently awarded $3.5 million in grants and contracts to help small businesses implement drug-free workplace programs. The grants will go to 21 SBA Small Business Development Centers and private organizations, such as drug-testing firms and employee assistance programs.

Florida Drug Screening, Inc located in Palm Bay, FL; has received another $175,000.00 under this SBA Drug Free Workplace grant. Utilizing this funding the company can provide the following at no cost for any Florida small businesses:

  • Complete implementation and set up of a Drug Free Workplace Program/Policy
  • Employee Education Program
  • Supervisor Training Program
  • Access to employee assistance program
  • Drug testing for a limited time (free to client)
  • Education to working parents on keeping kids drug free

This program will then qualify the business for a 5% reduction in workers comp premium.

The free testing is only available to businesses that have not previously done drug testing.

Additionally the firm can provide to any business or interested organization, live workshops on Supervisor Training, Employee Drug/Alcohol Awareness Workshop, Drug Free Workplace Program Overview or Parental Education to Keep Kids Drug Free. Again there is no cost.

"Recent studies put the cost to American society of drug and alcohol abuse at $276 billion," said Hector V. Barreto, administrator of the SBA. "Small business owners bear a substantial amount of that loss, which doesn't include the human cost to the families of those suffering from drug and alcohol abuse."

"This new round of funding will extend the assistance available to help small businesses reduce and eliminate the drug- and alcohol-related problems of absenteeism, workplace accidents, disciplinary actions, stolen inventory and lost productivity," Barreto said. "These are serious problems that no small business can afford to ignore."

Any of these programs can include local organizations as partners or co-sponsors. Florida Drug Screening, Inc looks forward to providing these services to Florida's small business community throughout the entire State of Florida.
